My vehicle is damaged, what should I do?

Some advice on dealing with a damaged vehicle:

  • If you want to claim from your insurer, remember to report the accident to:
    • the nearest police station within 24 hours
    • your insurance company (or broker) within 30 days
  • It’s always a good idea to take enough photos of the damage:
    • in case you need it when you sell your vehicle
    • or should the insurance company ask for it
  • Don’t leave your vehicle damaged for too long:
    • Rust will start to “grow” and never stop
    • Get a quote from us and don’t postpone
  • Please note we can offer quick turnaround times
  • We unfortunately cannot repair damage to the structure of your vehicle, but we can replace badly damaged bolt-on/-off panels.

How do I get a quote?

Our entire operation is geared to help you drive with a smile in no time. It starts with a written quotation – and we are #here2beofservice2you immediately.

A few pointers on getting a valid written quote:

  • It seems easier to receive an online quote sending photos, but there might be damage that an untrained eye won’t notice. Therefore it’s best to bring your vehicle to us so our well trained estimators can inspect your vehicle properly
  • It will only take a few minutes of your time to get a quote
  • Our quotes are valid for 30 days. However, due to the fact that we don’t control part prices, quoted part prices are only valid for 7 days
  • We can email the quote to you, so you can forward it to your insurance company/broker/assessor along with your claim form.

How soon can I get a booking?

Due to the nature of our business, the turnaround time on our floor is FAST, thereby frequently ensuring open slots. We should be able to assist you within TWO weeks tops – making the damage on your vehicle something of the past in no time.

Some advice on insurance claims bookings:
If you filed a claim with your insurance, wait four to five working days for a response. If you don’t get any, follow up with them (or get your broker to do this). Once Carty Carvenience is authorised by your insurance to do the repairs, an authorisation letter will be emailed to both yourself and us. Once we’ve received this letter, we’ll confirm receipt of the email with you and the insurance. Our receptionist will then contact you (call or email) to confirm a convenient booking date.

How many days to repair?

This is a frequently asked question, and very relevant because you need to plan to be without a vehicle.

Although we do understand this, it’s not possible to give a standard answer since the days required for the repairs will depend on the extent of the damage and the availability of parts (if applicable). It can take anything from a few hours to a week or two.

Once the damage to your vehicle is assessed, we’ll give/send you a written quote with a clear indication of the number of working days required to complete the repairs.

Which warranty will I get?

Our industry might have failed you a couple of times, but we take a strong stance to treat you as family and make every effort to get the job done right the first time.

We want you to have complete confidence in the work we do – which is why we provide a Sikkens LIFETIME WARRANTY on paint and THREE YEARS on workmanship. Parts have a 12-month guarantee (or as per manufacturer).

So, if you pick up an issue with any element of your repair work – a day, week, month or years later – we will attend to the fault, determine the cause and, if it’s in any way related to the workmanship or paint quality, we will rectify it a.s.a.p.

What about quality?

QUALITY IS NON-NEGOTIABLE. We are an accredited SAMBRA member that complies with national grading criteria and we bind ourselves to the code of conduct of our association!

We only use the correct equipment and auto body repair processes. All our technicians are trained and work under the supervision of our qualified panel beaters and spray painter. Each step in the process is performed according to the correct standards and each staff member in the process must deliver the correct quality work to the next person… since each one is held accountable for delivering the best and will not accept sub-standard work from a previous process.

A final quality control inspection is done on each vehicle by Jan Labuschagne or Morne Scheepers (two very competent and dedicated managers in the team). Each vehicle gets cleaned in our professional Car Wash before delivery.

What about Paintless Dent Repairs?

Paintless Dent Repair is a specialised skill used to remove dents caused by hail or similar objects, and where the paint surface is still intact. This procedure, performed by a very skilled technician, involves mainly the use of specialised tools to apply pressure to the backside of the panel to remove surface imperfections.

Not all dents can be removed like this due to various factors. Our qualified estimators can tell you on inspection of your vehicle whether a dent can be removed using this procedure. A quick (but imperfect) guide is that the dent has to be the size of a R5 coin or smaller.

At Carty Carvenience, this service can easily be combined with any Dent Repair or Valet service.

What About Windscreen Chip Repairs?

For your safety, it’s better to repair a chip on your windscreen. It’s important to act as quickly as possible, since a chip can worsen at any time, compromising your safety and visibility.

Acting quickly can also prevent the chip from becoming a crack. With a crack on your windscreen, you’ll have to replace the windscreen to comply with roadworthy specifications, and for your safety.

It’s cheaper to repair a chipped windscreen than to replace it. A windscreen that has been repaired is just as strong as when it was first installed. Advanced equipment and diamond clear resin ensure amazing optical clarity.
